How to move 'minimize , maximize, close button to left corner

There are a lot of things have changed in the latest version of Ubuntu 18.04 and Title Bar Buttons is one of them. Actually in previous versions of Ubuntu like Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04, the Title Bar Buttons (minimize, maximize, close) was on top left corner. But in Ubuntu 18.04 It is located at top right corner as you can see in picture below.

So in This article we'll see how we can move Title Bar Buttons  from right side to left.
let's see -

How to move Title Bar Buttons from Right side to Left Side in Ubuntu 18.04

To move it follow these simple steps -

  1. open terminal
  2. Type the command c below and hit enter-
     gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout   'close,maximize,minimize:'

 and its done.

see the result in above picture. Our Title bar Buttons have moved to the left of our Title Bar.

note - This command will only work if you haven't changed your desktop environment from GNOME to other desktop environments (e.g. Unity)

and if you want to move it again to right side then-

Now lets see how we can revert above operation-

again open terminal and type command -

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout ':minimize, maximize,close'

 its done.

We can also change the order of these buttons by changing the order of minimize, maximize and close button in above command just like this

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout ':close,minimize,maximize'

This command moved the close button from last to middle position. That's  how we can play with this command and  position our title bar buttons as we want.
